Quick Question: How do I find contacts within groups which I have created in my Database? Essentially I am asking how to filter results within my search results. Thanks in advance.
I am using DayLite 3.1.1 |

Hi
This should be quite easy, and as with many things in DL there's more than one way to do it! First, you can just go to Groups, click the group name and provided your view is set for more than one column then you'll see your list of linked contacts (if you don't want to see organisations, assuming they may be linked, then you can click the small Orgs icon above the list. However, what I think you were trying to do was set up a smart list in the Contacts view. Click the "+" button to create a new Smart List and in the criteria click on Groups, then from the list that appears on the right side you want to double-click "Name" (assuming that's how you're going to identify the group). Pick your matching operator ("is", "contains" etc) and the text to match. It's as easy as that! Your post was a bit brief, but if you're trying to find members of a group *within another search*, then depending on what your criteria look like you could use the filter box in the Group view, but I think more likely you need to go the smart list route and incorporate *all* the criteria (i.e. start your search from scratch) in the smart list definition. You might want to check out the DL manual -- this is all explained (with pics). Nick |

What I am specifically trying to do is the following?
I am searching for a contact who works for NASA(Organization) and is linked to SMST(Group). The only way I knew how to find the contact was by searching in the groups list for the "SMST" group, and then scrolling one by one of the contacts until I saw the word "NASA" in the respective contacts information. I was hoping to find an easier way to search for the contact who contained a link to NASA(organization) within the SMST(group) in which I searched for in the groups section. From your suggestion, I created a smart list two filter both organizations and groups. This worked, thank you very much. But in the DayLite 1.9, i could type in two words, "nasa smst" in the search field and the respective contact would show up. DayLite 3.1 does not let me do this. So is creating a smart list the only way to search for a contact using two filter fields (Organization and Groups)? Thanks for the help. -Francisco |
