Been using DL for over a year and no problems and all of a sudden I can't launch the app on Monday. Now days later and multiple emails with MC there is still no solution. I've done the repair permissions, uninstall, reinstall, check the KB articles for conflicts(none apply). Now I've also archived and installed the entire OS and reinstalled DL. Still not working! Super unhappy camper right now.

Hi Patrick
Is the database you are trying to connect to the same as the ip of the host machine. Or is it DL won't launch at all?

Correct, no connect to window. I just get this progress bar graphic with the barber shop stripes and a caption that says "setting up the application" there are not even any background graphics. This is super weird. I created a new account on the computer and tried to launch the app and got the same problem. I reinstalled the OS (archive option) and still same problem. All other computer functions and applications are normal.

Dave you may need to uninstall DL and re-install. Do you know how?

If the app stopped working all of a sudden, when it was fine previously, then that means something changed somewhere on your system - a new program, new hardware, etc. You'll have to find out what changed around the time it stopped working and see if you can revert it.

It might not necessarily be existing or new software either - I've once come across a newly installed application that would consistently crash; the application wasn't at fault - it just happened to expose a flaw in a bad memory module that had recently been installed.

Please take this as an attempt to help (I am sure you are super frustrated by now and all of us firing these simple "tries" at you could seem pretty silly)...

Do you use time machine?
If so have you tried reverting the app back before you had the problem and see if that works?

gave the time machine route a go since I've got nothing to lose at this point. alas, no success. i replaced the dl app and the open base folder w/ working date versions. at this point i am pretty much resigned to having to blow a day doing an install of the os and all applications from scratch. yuck. it is really frustrating tho since you think the app is the app. if it is broken you take it out w/ the related files and put it back again fresh and it should work. at least this is how it has been with other apps i've had problems with in the past.

i've done a clean install of 10.5 and then ran the 10.5.3 combo update. now everything is fine. just about finished installing all my applications. when i first purchased this macbook pro early this year i used the mac transfer data to new computer function. in retrospect i think it is a better idea to manually install your applications and move your data carefully to a new computer. even though the transfer worked ok i think just a nice fresh clean install means less trouble later.

Have to agree. When transferring problems come along as well. Say transferring from PPC to Intel machine. Programs are universal, but file structure is read different by some apps. Glad all is working for you. I know how frustrating it can be

I am having the exact same problem as Patrick.
All of a sudden, a while after upgrading to Leopard, I get a hang at "Setting up application" when launching Daylite.

I have tried all the tips listed in this thread, except a clean OS install. Is there anything else that may be causing this problem?

I have the exact same problem and have for weeks. I have uninstalled/reinstalled, zapped the application entirely, redownloaded and tried to reinstall, you name it. Any ideas?
