We have a very small company, and want very much to use Daylite for two users with laptops. The instructions say that the database should be someplace with a static IP that is always connected. So we thought we would put it on the server for our websites. We transferred a copy (making sure that the prefs for sharing over the network are checked), then tried to log in. No joy. The error message said taht we had to have Daylite installed on the server. The server is Unix-based. Does this mean that we can only put it on servers that are running OSX Server? Can we put it on .Mac? How would you "install" Daylite on .Mac? We do have another laptop that we could leave on all the time and connected to the Internet. How would we access that over the Internet.
I am thinking that I must be seeing this wrong, since it seems like a very common situation, yet it does not seem to be addressed in any of the many pieces of documentation I have looked at.
Hi Joe, DL needs a dedicated Mac to run on as the server. The mac doesn't need to be connected to the internet except for upgrades. Then you can connect one of your laptops with an offline copy. There are movies on the support area of site that explain a lot of questions. Hope this helps
Thank you for replying. My question is rather whether it would be possible to access DL _over the Internet_ so that my database updates while I am on the road. Is that possible in my situation?
