Hi folks,
I upgraded Daylite yesterday, and all seemed to work fine. But now I'm doing the first sync, and it's been running ALL DAY. Anyone else having the same problem? Is there so much new stuff in the upgrade that the sync should take this long, or has Daylite crashed without notifying me? I hate to force quit it, if it's just doing what it's supposed to do... Thanks all, Alyssa |

First, what kind of sync are you referring to - online/offline sync, or iCal/Address Book sync?
If it's an offline/online sync, then it may take a long time to complete the first sync if your database is large. If you're doing an iCal/AB sync, you may have too many new items being synced and it's taking the system a long time to do the sync (how many orgs/contacts are you syncing?). Either way, I suggest you send your logs in to Support (Help > Email Log Files) so that we can determine why it's taking a long time to complete. Need help in Daylite or Billings? Check the Help menu for Apple Help documentation. |

Hi.
I'm afraid you have encountered the so called Never-ending sync bug. It has been happening to me about every other day for the last three months. Its intermittent. It is annoying to be sure. I have been working with MC to try to help them identify the problem and have sent numerous log files etc. Unfortunately they cannot identify the issue so it has not been resolved. If you can reproduce the problem at will then I am sure they would like to hear from you. If you FQ it should not corrupt the database but do ensure that you have a reliable backup programme in operation via Time Machine or online/offline synching or otherwise as a fallback just in case the worst should happen. Hope this helps you to know that others are experiencing this issue an I guess we all look forward to when they nail this bug once and for all. Regards Bill |

Hi Sebastien, and thanks for your reply!
Sorry, I guess I should have been more specific. The computer isn't networked, it's just the database on my hard drive, used only by me. I had previously turned off the automatic sync option in Preferences, because I found it sucked up too much time and memory, usually while I was in the middle of something rushed. :-) I had done a manual sync (Actions / Synchronize) shortly before I upgraded, and would not have added more than two or three new items before doing the upgrade. I waited a couple of days after the upgrade (to make sure everything was working as I expected), then did another manual sync Wednesday. That one took forever, and I needed access to the database for a deadlined project, so I force-quitted it at that point. Thursday wasn't such a busy day, so I started another manual sync in the morning -- and it's still going! I've got about 2000 organizations and 5000 contacts. From Bill's comments, it sounds like it's stuck somewhere, so I'll force quit it and send you the log files. Thanks! Alyssa |

Thanks, Bill -- well, at least I know I'm not alone!
I'll be happy to share whatever I figure out. Alyssa |

I just had this problem, and had to force quit. I wonder if the changes to sync processes with MobileMe (formerly .Mac) have anything to do with this, or is it a coincedence? I updated my iPhone to v.2 software last night, and it sync'd fine, but .Mac and MobileMe sites are very flakey.

Alyssa,
On the first sync, you shouldn't have more than 1500 or so contacts. You can add more later (on subsequent syncs - 1000 at a time). We have a description of this problem in the Sync Guide. We are waiting for a fix from Apple on this one. |

Charles,
You are right to be concerned. We are hoping that MobileMe doesn't make the whole system more delicate than it currently is. We'll know soon - as Apple completes this massive roll-out and irons out the kinks. |

Well, I did the force quit. Opened up Daylite and all was fine. I went into Sync Preferences to double-check things, then unchecked the "I sync with an iPhone" box. Synced again and all went well.
After that, I got a message from Marketcircle with the following instructions: * Quit Daylite, iCal & Address Book (if open) * Launch iSync (From Applications -> iSync) * Go to iSync's Preferences (iSync -> Preferences) * Turn Syncing Off for the Computer (Uncheck the 'Enable syncing on this computer') * Reset Sync History in iSync (iSync -> Preferences -> click on the 'Reset Sync History' button) * Reset the sync history a second time * Turn Syncing back on for the Computer (iSync -> Preferences -> Enable Syncing on this computer ) * Launch Daylite and log into the database * Perform a sync (Actions -> Synchronize) I did that, and it synched fine again. One weird thing was that it opened iCal for the first sync (which I never use), but other than that, all worked fine -- and is still working fine, several synchs later. |

Well... these forums, and if I remember some Markecicle people, had been advising not to make changes in AB/iCal (or synced devices like Palm)... as changes made in AB/iCal were not syncing reliably back to Daylite (only the other direction).
Are people now saying that Sync Services with Daylite is stable enough to allow sync to go in both directions? I currently have my Palm set to be overwritten, which is very inconvenient. And I've never tried letting SS & dotMac (or MobileMe now) overwrite my AB or iCal... just a one way reset to overwrite dotMac data. Of course I'll wait for MobileMe to settle out a little before even attempting a sync, even if it's one way. I should note... under leopard. Tony |

The so called never ending sync bug has affected me a number of times too. Force quit seems to be the only fix, then afterwards, all seems to be well. But this certainly doesn't appear to be an isolated issue!

Alyssa's solution worked for me! Syncing both ways is working perfectly.

Hello All.
We released a public beta of Daylite 3.7.5 which should prevent the never ending sync problem. Chances are it is because there was an error in the background during the sync causing DL some issues. The update properly catches those errors now. You can get more info about the public beta here. Please let us know if that resolves the never ending syncs! Thanks, Michael. |

The contact sync has been restored with the update to 3.7.5beta. However, calendar items will not sync. DL still hangs.
I sync with iCal and a MissingSync (Dotmac sync is disabled) . I have even deleted all the calendars in iSync, then attempted to sync with DL, but same result.... never ending synchronization. On Leopard 10.5.4, Macbook Pro |

I am glad to see that it is not just me too. I do not have 3.7.5, but Contacts do sync, but iCal does not and FQ is required. I assume this is a Marketcircle problem since everything worked fine before the last "upgrade"(?) - I only have 700 contacts and organizations to synch. I will try Alyssa's solution, but am disturbed that MC does not seem to be taking responsibility for fixing this - AJ says they are waiting for Apple to fix something.
I have now isolated my synch problem to the DL Calendar. If I follow Alyssa's suggestion, but only turn on synching in DL for Contacts & Organizations, everything works fine. Trying the reverse process, syncing only the Calendar hangs up. A fix would be appreciated. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Christopher Gebelein, |
