Extra Fields don't synchronize?

Any suggestions on bring key data beside address and phone numbers to my Treo 650? In my line of work, I like to have the account numbers with me.

Why are the fax numbers listed as other? Any suggestions?

Extra fields are not supported - mainly because there is no easy to map them.

I can't think of an easy way to solve this. Even importing vCard will not get you the extra field info.

Sorry ...

Extra Fields are almost a waste. You can't synchronize them, we don't have enough of them, and organization's extra fields are not used when importing to excel or word. What good are they?

Am I right?

You might be right for your use, but I use extra fields for a few things, so they're certainly not a waste. I don't need those fields to synchronise with anything -- they're for use in my CRM, i.e. Daylite. The records are created in Daylite while I work, there's no need to import them with Excel. So, everyone is different, but they work fine.

You are right...they may not as important to you as they could be for me.

I work for 6 different companies. Each company assigns an account number and terms to each organization I work with.

I would like to have that info on my PDA. (when i was using ACT this was possible)

And...

When I am using Excel Spreadsheets, I would like to import extra fields onto my custom order form. However, the Extra Fields from Organizations don't work. Only Extra Fields from contacts work. In theory the organization "owns" the account number, not the contact. That doesn't really help.

Extra fields can be very useful within Daylite for creating smartlists and filtering. But for syncing you are stuck. Of course since there is no corresponding field to sync to you can hardly blame market circle for not supporting it.

It would be nice however if the extra fields and other data that are not readily mappable 1 to 1 to existing fields were turned into a note for exportation or 1 way syncing.

Not sure if this would/how really work in practice.

But perhaps using tags in the note like:

<DAYLITE NOTEID="5699560406">
This is the note of great importance.
</DAYLITE>

or something ugly like that would allow at least some means of this.

I understand why it isn't done but it would be nice to be able export all the data and at least 1-way sync all the data from a Daylite contact to other devices.

Unfortunately notes are not synced either.

Is this really a Mac Issue or is it Daylite issue? The reason I am asking is in the PC world with PC CRM Software like ACT, I was able to sync between 4-8 "extra" fields to my Treo 650 (and other PDAs over the years).

It depends on the whole mechanism — from PDA to sync software to operating system to applications. In order to effectively keep data in sync across many devices, companies work together to develop "schemas" that describe what data can be synced.

The issue is not a Mac issue nor a Daylite issue. It's a Palm-Nokia-Apple-Marketcircle-ACT-Now-Siemens-Sony-Motorola… etc. etc. etc. issue.

The biggest players—including Apple—have the most say in the schemas. So if you want to see a consistent set of extra fields synced, your best bet is to get into a big group and lobby the big players.

I agree, is there a way to add more extra fields? I'm in the Real Estate industry (I saw from industry specific uses forum that MC is working on catering to this field) and as such, we import homeowner leads, mortgage leads, etc, all of which have A LOT of fields, primarily loan data, home specs data, etc. I'd like to have at least double the extra fields (preferably more) that are available, or the ability to customize (add) the number of extra fields needed for a specific import. Looking at preferences, this is not possible. If anyone has a solution to this, please let me know.

Thanks.

More please...

More extra fields and with more power!

Extra Fields that can be merged into excel, word, numbers, etc.

Example:
Extra Fields that can be specifically designated for currency. (Why you ask...Keeping track of sales volume from year to year lets me get a glimpse of the accounts success).
