Hi,
I had a hard-disk crash and had to get a new one. I have a backup copy of my Daylite database and I dropped it into "Databases.obstorage". But when I try to log in I get the spinning wheel and I have to Force Quit Daylite. I dont know if its a Username and Password problem - so I have tried to log in using any combination I can think of. I have also tried using DayLite Admin and DayLite Admin - but still no luck. When I go to OpenBase Manager - it says "Daylite: OpenBase does not have permission to write to the database." I can log in to the sample database and I made a new database from Address Book - no problem - instant log in. Any ideas what I can do? Michael |

Hi Michael,
Did you use Daylite's Restore function (via File>Database>Restore Database...)? When you choose Restore Database, you will be prompted to choose the backup item that you wish to restore; this procedure will properly set your permissions. Hope this helps, Cynthia MacBook Pro OS X 10.5/Daylite 3.7.6 ______________________________________ Daylite Master Partner, Daylite Report Certified www.daylitehelp.com ______________________________________ |

When you transfer a database using the database utility you will likely run into this problem as well. I haven't tried Cynthia's solution but I will test this as well.
The solution that worked for me is to select the .db file, get info, and under the section "Ownership & Permissions" make sure: You can: Read & Write Owner: Openbase Access: Read & Write Group: Admin Access: Read & Write Others: Read Only Use the Marketcircle database utility to move the database into the .obstorage folder. I recommend restartng your computer then trying to log into your daylite database. onsitehelp.ca Certified Daylite Partner 416.919.9332 kirk@onsitehelp.ca |

Hi Cynthia,
I just stumbled across your note of July 14th to Michael Bang. I am having exactly the same problem that he had. When you say "use the restore function", how do you get to the File>Database etc.? My guess is that I would have to have Daylite running. But I am having the same problem as Michael: I can't log in. After 30 seconds I discover that "Daylite is not responding" and I have to do yet another Force Quit. Any light to shed on this one? Many thanks from Montreal, Fred

Hi Fred,
If you're trying to restore from a database backup and are unable to get to the File>Database>Restore Database function: is it because when you launch the Daylite application, it's trying to automatically log into a database (thereby tying up your Daylite application)? If so, what we need to do is avoid doing that auto-login: 1. quit the Daylite application 2. push and hold the Option key on your keyboard while you launch the Daylite application 3. when Daylite launches you can let go of the Option key 4. if you're presented with a database login window, click Cancel 5. go up to File>Database>Restore Database>follow prompts to locate and choose the desired database bakcup Hope this helps, Cynthia MacBook Pro OS X 10.5/Daylite 3.7.6 ______________________________________ Daylite Master Partner, Daylite Report Certified www.daylitehelp.com ______________________________________ |

Thanks, Cynthia!
I just followed your instructions and was able to get to the Restore Database command. Should I log in as Daylite Admin or as myself? I just logged in as Daylite Admin, but let's see what you say. I'm about to hit the hay and let this run all night long. Fred

Hi Fred,
Ok, good! It really doesn't matter who you log in as, Daylite Admin is fine. If you're going to leave your computer for the night, I would make sure that the computer isn't allowed to spin down or sleep while it's doing these processes. You can set these in System Preferences>Energy Saver>Sleep>slide the 'Put the Computer to sleep' slider over to Never>UNcheck Put the hard disk to sleep when possible. Hope it all goes well overnight!
