When using the "Link" function when creating a new task, opportunity, project etc and type in a contact then I am getting every 'possible' result duplicated. This occurs consistently.

When I view contacts though in the contact area they are only listed once. Any ideas?

I suggest you try to rebuild the Quick Find index, and see if it still occurs. If so, please send in the screen shot and any info on your setup (is this a local database, do you sync offline, etc.) as Sean suggested.
