I have been paling around with the different categories and have somehow locked on of them so that when i click on the category to change the colour i get an error message saying that it is locked by another user and i must try again later...I'm the only user on the system?!!

This is a known problem that will be fixed in the next release.

For the time being you'll need to log out and back in to be able to edit them (they'll get "unlocked" by logging out).
