Hi

I've created a Smart List called with the following criteria;

Category>school rehearsals
Type>appointments
Start date>is between two specific dates
Status>tentative

There are seven dates (soon to be more); 3 dates are unique and the remaining four are repeats of the third date.

Only the first three dates show up in the smart list.

I have refreshed the database and also restarted Daylite but all seven dates will not show (unless, of course, I create them as unique dates in their own right - which kind of defeats the object really).

Ideas?

Pete

A repeating appointment still only has one start date, so the Smart List is doing what it's been asked. I'll have to have a think about whether there's another way that does what you want.

Thank you for looking into this.

At the risk of stating the obvious, this is part of a wider problem of how DL manages repeat appointments for us as a theatre company that frequently has to schedule repeat performances as individual objects. If one wants to create repeat appointments using the repeat button then it is reasonable to assume that each of those appointments are important in their own right and need to show up in lists. Anything less than this is not accurate information in terms of one's activities only accurate in terms of the programme's logic.

Would it be possible to have a criteria that just says 'date' as opposed to start date?

The problem could be overcome by creating a string of separate appts but the process of creating them is tedious in the extreme because appointments don't appear to be objects that can be copied in their entirety. It would be great if one could highlight an appt. and copy and paste it into the same day or another, ad infinitum. I can see how managing to do this and taking all the links with it would be very difficult but I'd forgo the links and add them with bulk edit in appts. list view to get this facility.

Hope this helps to explain what we need on this.

All the best

Hi Pete

I did understand what you needed, the point I was making was that Daylite is querying a database and requires logic. The problem here is whether it's possible to create the logical criteria.

So while I know that the start date criterion isn't providing you with the answer you need, the solution is not to change what a "start date" means (i.e. so every occurrence of a repeating object has a new start date) but to find a different set of criteria that gives the expected output. I've had the chance to take a look at this now but can't see an answer with the choices available.

The solution, therefore is like you said in your last post, to introduce a criterion that means you can check whether something is "in progress".

In another thread today the subject of multiple-day Appointments came up -- if they are introduced then that will reinforce the need for this kind of test where the start date and end date do not fit the bill.

As always, feature requests go to daylite-feedback /at/ etc:

You also highlighted what would be another useful feature request, which is to be able to drag-and-drop an appointment in the Calendar with the command key held down to copy it...

As a new user when I create a set of repeating fields and then postpone one of them, and upon request apply the same delay to future appts, they disappear from the contact's activity list, even though when individually viewed, the appointment says it is still linked to that contact, this is making this program of questionable use to me now.
have refreshed, restarted etc.

This is a known issue; we don't have a fix for it yet though. Sorry,

Thanks for the reply, this is a significant issue for me, do you anticipate a fix soon ? looking at Nick Bell's comments,I would have thought a basic parent daughter relationship in the underlying DB should not let this happen, or are there more complex calculated keys - though I would have thought a contact is a fairly fundamental object in the DB structure. If I am talking rubbing it is 'cos I am not a programmer.

Guys Is there any fix for this? Either by adding a logic criteria or just by treating repeated events as individual events when displayed in the appointments section? This is driving our senior AA nuts and I'm really surprised that this has not been resolved before.

I know that there are so many elements to a program as complex as this. So, I in no way mean to diminish the complexity of the situation.

In any case, your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Thank you for your time,
James L. McMahan Jr.

I don't have a timeframe. I will ask the engineers again but I believe this is a surprisingly complex problem. But it is well known and something we plan to fix.

3.5 has some great things, obviously you are working hard, and the repeating appts dont get broken anymore when you move them BUT and it is a very big but ! repeating appts don't appear in the appointments pane ! apply a filter and you only get the first appt. similarly when in project overview the next upcoming activity will show as zero when there are (repeating) appts ahead, why is this ? thank you Tim

As we've said, something we plan to fix. But we can't commit to a timeframe, and it is a nontrivial issue. Hope the many free improvements in 3.5 are making things better for you!

HTH,
