I am in the process of importing about 6,000 contacts from Exchange into Daylite, I have created the text file and the import process works fine. Part of the process is creating an Outlook profile - I am having some difficulty with basics, such as where to map all the business info. Does anyone have a profile that has worked well that they can share. Rather than reinvent the wheel - would it make sense to post one on the forum? (I searched and couldn't find one).

Btw - why isn't there a profile for Outlook? I tried using the Entourage profile, but there it only partially worked. There must be quite a few people migrating from Outlook/Exchange, especially now the long waited Office 2008 still doesn't have full Exchange sync.

Thanks, Simon

The penny has dropped! The way to import from Outlook is to convert the contacts to VCards and then import them. If you want to get the full data imported, including categories, then it seems to be best to use the Vcard converter software from Sperry:
http://www.sperrysoftware.com/Outlook/Vcard-Converter.asp

I tried importing a Vcard created by Outlook and everything mapped perfectly, but it did not map the categories field (essential for me). The Sperry software does this....

Sperry explains:
New! As of version 3.1.0, we've added direct support for the VCard 3.0 specifications (rfc 2425 and rfc 2426). What this means is that you get a faster more powerful implementation. For instance, Outlook doesn't support some VCard fields (like Categories) because it only supports VCard specification 2.1 - but VCard Converter handles them without a problem. After using this tool, you may find that there are new contact fields that are filled in that you didn't know were contained in your VCard files (like Categories, for example).

I will let you know if it works.

I am trying to test importing 6000 contacts from Outlook 2007 into Daylite, and went ahead and tried the Vcard-converter app as well. It didn't work for me...

1) When importing, the categories don't show up in Daylite
2) None of the Outlook User Fields 1-4 map to, say, Extra Field 1-4.
3) Where are the Outlook Notes field?

When trying to do a straight tab or comma delimited export from Outlook, I can map the fields (very tediously) but if there are carriage returns in the Notes field, is broken by the delimiters, and thus each line of a note field is treated a separate contact record.

All very tedious, and none of them functional. Is there a better way?
