I'm testing out Daylight as our probable new office DB and am having difficulties creating & accessing Custom Templates over our office network. As an example I did the following to create a new package address label:
1. Actions>New Print Layout>Envelope... 2. Layout/Report available in Contacts named Label Address A4 3. Using the existing Address #1 (Title, Envelope #10) .. (its not actually an envelope but this has all the data I want for the A4 Label and it saves me stabbing my eyes out as if i create one from scratch 4. Changed paper size to A4. 5. Adjust position of the two text boxes. 6. File>Save>Save As... ... now here is where i think things are going wrong The Daylight Manual is bloody useless at this point -pg 89 - Section E: Getting things done with Daylight>Creating and customizing labels and envelopes simply ends at Step 10 .. Daylight>File>Save. But Save where? I get a dialog asking me where i want to save Label Address A4.dlreport defaulting to ~/Library/Application Support/Daylight/Templates on my local machine. However according to what i can find on these forums the correct location for any templates you create that you want available to ALL Daylight users is server/Library/Application Support/Daylight/Templates where server is the Network server where the shared DB resides. They should not be placed in ~/Library/Application Support/Daylight/Templates on my local machine as they will only be available to Daylight on that machine. Problem at this point is that as the entire server is not mounted by OS X Server as a Share Point (only certain subfolders are) this location is not directly accessible to workstations. So i save it into our file Share Point and then move it to the correct location on the server itself. However when I select a Contact>Print this new template does not appear in my list of available Layouts (i have tried disconnected from the DB and reconnecting). Any ideas as to what am i doing wrong? cheers, Owen Sharp Sydney, Australia OS X 10.4.9, Daylight 3.2 (1092) |

did you solve that issue?
I thought that custom templates (Reports, etc.) could have been stored in the Database, thus being accessible to all daylite users. Unfortunately this seems not to be the case... Maybe you can create a directory named "daylite templates" in one of your shared volumes and then replace the ~/Library/Application Support/Daylight/Templates directory with a symlink (alias for Mac old timers) that points to that network folder. The user will then need to mount that network volume before using Daylite but maybe that's the best thing you can do to solve this. |

This has been requested several times.
Any news on this? Would be great if we could define the path for templates like in Word! |

Daylite currently looks in 3 locations for templates.
- your desktop - user -> library - > application support - Documents Folder The templates will only display on the list if it resides on the computer you're trying to run them from. Currently you can't share them between users via a network location or path. You'll have to put the custom templates on each user's computer that wants to run them. |
