I have an issue that is hard to describe and that I have been able to replicate.

I create a new contract record in Daylite with just the first name, last name and one email address.

Both Daylite and Apple mail are running and connected.

Within Daylite, I write the first and new email to this new contact record which launches the new email window within Apple Mail.

The new contact's email address is shown in the "to" field in Apple Mail. I send the new email.

I go back and send another email to the new contact.

What doesn't happen is the email address changing to the new contact record's real name in the "to" field, (i.e., the new contact record's email address is displayed).

I've noticed that some some names have the "< ... >" around the email address preceded by the real name of the contact, some don't.

The odd thing is that sometimes the integration behaves properly, other times it doesn't.

My buddy has a separate installation on a different computer, also with a stand alone database, and his works all the time. We are both up to date on builds, the latest on the OS, the latest on Apple Mail build as well.

Any ideas as to what is going on??

Thank you

Jay

I have the same issue. Sometimes the person's real name shows up, with the email in the < > brackets, and sometimes just the "naked" email address shows up. Very annoying - the real name should be put in all the emails as it is a) much more personal and b) less likely to be filtered as spam or ignored by the recipient. This really needs to be fixed.

What you're describing is a Mail feature - it pulls a contact name to display bases on the email stored in the Address Book database; if the name is not displayed (only the email address), this probably means that the contact data isn't in Address Book (or isn't complete).

You can usually easily add the info to Address Book by clicking the name/email address and selecting Add to Address Book from the menu that appears. This will automatically display the contact name associated with the email address for the recipient(s).

This feature does not depend on Daylite.

Need help in Daylite or Billings? Check the Help menu for Apple Help documentation.

Actually, Sebastien, that is not correct. I have only about 10 contacts in my Address Book, just a few family members, none of whom are my customers that I am emailing via Daylite/DMI. The name plus email address will show up in SOME of the customer emails I write but not in others, and this behaviour has nothing to do with whether or not the contact is in the Address Book database. Strange I know, and it would be great if you could make DL somehow able to insert each contact as John Doe <johndoe@email.com> in Mail's TO: line.

Here is a little more information on why this happens in Apple Mail. The following has been taken out from Apple Mail's Help System.

Addressing messages
When you address a new message, Mail can automatically complete a recipient’s email address after you type the first few letters.

To address a message:

Start typing a name or email address in the To field or in any other address field.

As you type, Mail displays the first matching address it finds in your address book or Previous Recipients list, or in any LDAP server listed in Mail or Address Book preferences.

You can type just the first few letters of a recipient’s name or email address. For example, to address a message to Tom Clark, you could type “t c” to display a list of names where the first name begins with "t" and the last name begins with "c" and then choose Tom Clark from the list.

When you see the address you want, click it or use arrow keys to move to it, and press Return. If there is no match for the address you want, type the complete address.

To add more recipients, start typing the next name. When you’re done adding recipients, press Tab to move to the next field.

If you enter email addresses that are not Smart Addresses, separate them with a comma.

You can drag addresses between the address fields.

If you regularly address messages to the same group of people, you can save their addresses as a group in Address Book and then address messages to just the group name.

I think it is clear from this, that the issue does not lie with Daylite but stems from how emails are remembered in Apple Mail.

This could be a feature request.

Thanks!
