I have been working with a client who wants to use Daylite. She purchased two new iMacs and with some assistance from me, we were able to convert her entire 32,000 organization database from Goldmine to Daylite. We were able to install Daylite successfully on her home computer and import the file into Daylite.
I created a backup of that file and did a successful "restore" of the backup file onto her work iMac (located in her home). Yesterday, the client moved the computer from her home to her office and Daylite would not connect. It would just sit and spin stating "Starting Connection." I opened OpenBase Manager and it would lock up. With remote support we came to the conclusion that there were issues with her computer and she ended up taking the computer back to the Apple Store and swapped it out with a new one. Today she called and we walked through the steps again. Here are the steps I took to get it up and running today (with no avail). 1. Install latest version of Daylite v. 3.7.5 Productivity Suite. 2. Once installed, we proceeded by opening Daylite. When prompted with the "Connect New Database..." options, I had the client go to File > Database > Restore Backup... Unfortunately, I noticed (after the fact) that the backup file I posted online was being changed from a .tgz file to a .tar file when downloaded to the Desktop. Not realizing this, I had the customer double click the file which expanded to a the Database file called "Daylite5.db" I then had the customer try restoring the backup and choosing this .db file. No avail. and probably not a good thing to do. 3. When this didn't work, I tried to create a New Database and walked through all the step on creating a new database. In the end, I received the following error message. "could not connect to newly registered database...." Huh? I tried uninstalling and then reinstalling Daylite. Tried creating a new Database. Different error: "check your ports" Let me know if you have any ideas of what could be happening. Thanks, Brent |
