Man, you guys are feakin' me out!
I bought a new BB8700 back in August with new Cingular service. I went back the next day to swap it out for a Treo 650 when I found out it wouldn't sync w/ DL. Now I am facing a change in company that will force me into a new Blackberry so I can be on call with their enterprise email system. The last thing I want is to give up my daylite. It does everything for me and syncs beautifully with my Palm. Keep me posted! |

Hi Stephen,
I sympathize with you. I see you are on Cingular. Have you tried Blackberry Connect with your Treo? Your local office should be able to provision your phone. If it works, you'll have the best of all worlds. I think I'm going to give up on Blackberry and go for the Treo 680 when Cingular offers it. Thanks, Mark |

Hey Guys--
I have not had time to dedicate to making sure this whole thing is working. I can tell you that events I create on the BB are making it to DL and vice versa. I have not had time to play around with tasks. -r |

Hi AJ,
The Beta 3.1.4 B1062 you supplied worked great with t-Mobile 7100 and PocketMac 4.0. Until now that is. PocketMac quits regardless of what I do. (Cleaning out preferences, etc.). Do you have a new build? Thanks, Bill |

I'm having the exact same problem with tasks. Does anybody know what to do with this? Thanks in advance!

Hello. I got an email from Pocket Mac support over the weekend asking if I'd try PM with the new DL 3.2 release. Still no luck. At the going rate of reply, I'll hear back from PM support in about 6 weeks. I'll let you know what I hear.
Since some people can sync with PM and some not and it doesn't seem to have any correlation to device, I'm wondering if PM is choking on data it sees as corrupt. Has anyone here run into something like that? |

I have heard some rumblings about long notes in events and maybe attachements or funky links. Maybe (as if /all/ you have to do is test software and eat popcorn) a test would be to have a simple test calendar with a handful of short simple events, one task, one note, and a handful of contacts.

There are so many messages on this topic, that I haven't read them all. If this is a repeat, I apologize.
After some analysis, and tweaking, I've managed to get my tasks synced between Daylite and my BB8700. The problem I've uncovered is a simple issue of field mapping. PM does not have the sophistication to specify field mapping between the two platforms, adjust the selection criteria for fields to sync or even to understand the simple differences between the coding of the same field on both devices. As an example, The PM sync manager shows an option to "ignore Completed tasks". If you check it, you're not supposed to get completed tasks sent either way. However, Daylite doesn't use the status "Completed", it uses "Done". Therefore PM can't block completed tasks from being synced to the BB. Therefore, all my tasks, whether complete or not, get synced each time. Also, as someone else noted, the status on my BB is neither "Completed" or "Done", but instead "Deferred". I can only assume that, due to the many changes to field data during sync operations, PM is also purposefully making these changes. The only reason I can think of for this is that PM is using older mapping tables for older versions of DL, or tables for other devices. As a result, I can only conclude that PM is the problem. Either they don't have the technical sophistication to create a sync program and mapping table (unbelievable), or they have simply not put the effort into their product (most likely). It is clear from the number of comments on this topic that DL should take on this functionality. They could and should be able to make money with it.

I am really stuggling with this! I can get my tasks and contacts to sync just fine, but the calendar sync crashes by Pearl to the point where I have to reload the OS. Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can try?

I have had 90% success. The only trick I can recommend to you is selecting 1 sync item at a time (calendar, then tasks, then calenedar, etc.).
Good luck |

I definitely lose some detail in syncing with blackberry Pearl, though I'm not sure that is DL or PocketMac's fault. Seems blackberry's task list isn't able to sort by category, rather must use filter.
HOWEVER, I do have a problem that is likely DL or PM's fault with losing contact emails that are classed as anything other than "email", such as "work email". Is there any word out there about handling this? |

That's an ominous response Rocco. I went through a bunch of this way back with my palm. Never got things fully worked out, but ok. Not looking forward to another set of issues.
PocketMac definitely seems to have some strange things going on. No two syncs seem to progress in the same fashion. |

yeah, didn't mean to come off all poopy.
I have a decent amount of software experience and I'm not afraid to "jiggle the wires" and play aroud with settings and deal with workarounds, and suffer less than adequate solutions. but. Your last sentence summed it up for me. This thing is really hard to solve because there doesn't seem to be a consistent pattern of breakage. I'm having a hard time not giving up. That being said, I have it working about 80% of the time -rocco |

Understood about being "poopy". I don't have too much software experience, but am also pretty willing to get in and mess with things until they come out right. But yes, with no consistent problem it's difficult to figure out what to fix first.
I'm thinking the best solution might be to simply add a copy of any work or personal email as simply email, since DL can handle multiple email addresses. It would be doubled in one sense, but still wouldn't lose the additional detail. The simply tagged emails would then show in the Blackberry. If I had the scripting experience, I imagine that would be a pretty simple script to write. Though I have to say that DL pulls a default email for the front contact page, why that wouldn't be pulled into Blackberry by default, I haven't a clue. M |
