A 1.0 version of the ‘FTP Login Widget’ is now available for comments.
FTP Login Widget Simply download, unzip, place in the appropriate folder (~/Library/Application Support/DayLite/HUDTemplates/) and re-start Daylite. You will also need to set-up a new Form type in Daylite->Preferences->Form & Fields; this should have the following settings: Type: FTP Login Fields:
I've put some screen-shots of this set-up in with the Widget, in the folder ‘Form Setup’. The Widget will loop through all of the FTP Login Forms attached to an object and display them, along with links to connect to the server and edit the Form. The link to connect to the server should pass off to whatever FTP client is installed on your machine (I use Transmit). The Widget can be applied to Contacts, Organizations, Projects, Groups and Opportunities. |

I use Transmit a fair amount. Can you give me an example of how it would work in DL? This could be very useful!

Hi Mike
You create a Form with the FTP server details: address, username, password, etc. and the Widget will read the data out, echo it into the HUD and create a link that, with one click, will pass off to Transmit and open a connection to that server. So, for example, for each of my clients where I look after their website, I have the details of their web server set up in a DL Form. Then, when I want to connect to their web server via FTP, I simply have to click one link and Transmit will open a window directly into it, bringing it to the front. Hope that makes sense… The easiest way to see what it does is to try it. (All the Widget is doing is creating a URL link of the form ‘ftp://<username>:<password>@server.address/path/to/directory/’ and letting the system handle it with whatever FTP program you have installed.) Have you created a form with the FTP login details filled in? (See the screen-shots in the folder ‘Form Setup’; you may need to control-click on the FTPLogin.dlwkt icon and ‘Show Package Contents’ if you are running the latest version of Daylite to see that folder.)* *I've updated the download to separate out the folder, so if you can’t find it you might want to download the Widget again. If you have, you should see details of the connection in the left-hand side of the Widget, and a link named ‘Connect’ on the right-hand side; simply click that link to pass the details of the FTP login to whatever program you have on your hard drive that is set-up to handle the ‘ftp://’ protocol. If you are still having problems, I’ll need to know a few more details about exactly what the issue is. HTH Cheers |

ok - I finally figured out how to use the ftp widget.
SWEET! I would be interested in knowing how people are using it. I was thinking about uploading project reports for customers, but I am sure some of you have other uses. Please share your ideas! |

As a photographer, I'll be using it extensively for transmitting finished digital images to my clients. Using it right now as a matter of fact!!

hmm... then do you provide them with password access and email them to look in the folder? I guess you could do a form merged letter with login details and filenames to look for?
thanks. |

No... I'm talking about sending them their finished digital files that have been purchased.
If I just want them to look at proofs, I don't need to ftp anything to them. I simply create a PhotoShop web gallery, upload that to my website (via Transmit) and provide a URL for them to view it. |

Hello, sorry i think my head is not functioning well late afternoon on a friday - but i can not seem to find/get the link working to the ftp client. I have put the widget where it needs to be, i have made the form. I can add a form to a organization and input the ftp access info. Then what? as i am expecting to have a live link show up somewhere to click on and i can not seem to find it, your help is most welcome about now :-)

Have you activated the widget? At the top right of the HUD area there is a small plus symbol in a circle; press that and ensure the FTP login is ticked and active. You might also have to click the disclosure triangle to open the HUD once it is installed. As long as there is an appropriately structured form attached to the Contact/Org, you should then get a summary of the details and a clickable link appearing in the now active HUD. HTH |

Morning, 'have i activated the widget' short answer - no LOL and i cant find the small plus symbol (i know daylite have all these things just there but it takes a month of sundays to find them). When you say the HUD area where is that? I have the latest version 3.1.2, i have not used HUD's before thought, so i may not be looking in the right area/window. help welcome again
