Ever wanted to link an appointment to a Note? Here is a quick and easy way to do so.

Daylite has the ability to copy hyperlinks of it's objects. This can be achieved extremely easily by setting up a shortcut in your apple keyboard preferences for the copy hyperlink function (under Edit in the application menu bar in Daylite). Once you have set this up, all you need to do is click on the appointment, use your shortcut to copy the hyperlink and paste it in the note. This can work both ways, as well as with other objects in Daylite too!

Check it out!

James this is brilliant!

A while back several users asked me if was possible to link notes to appointments and tasks. I never thought of using the hyperlinks to achieve this.

Incidentally these hyperlinks can be pasted into emails & ichat windows as well. Any Daylite user who is logged into the same database can click the hyperlink and be taken directly to the object in Daylite. Pretty slick!

I agree that it will suffice as a workaround, but I'd really like to see MC incorporate some of these more basic features in DL.

I can't think of any user who wouldn't want to, and whose workday wouldn't be improved by, the ability to easily link notes, not to mention tasks, correspondence, etc, directly to an appointment. If I am attending a meeting and have to bring prep materials, I'd like them linked to the appointment on my calendar so that I can easily access and print the material I need to take with me. This capacity would work as brilliantly with one-to-one meetings and multiple-attendee meetings. No more having to look up the contact to sort through and find the relevant note and our linked material.

Also, if I'm doing a phone appointment/interview, I would have all of the information (notes, research, documents) immediately at hand during the phone call. This is especially useful when talking with someone who I have not yet (or, more precisely, there is no reason yet to) turn(ed) into a contact in DL.

I hope MC is looking at increasing some of this basic functionality to enable users to better work from the calendar module. Notes and tasks could be easily added to the link options along with contact, project, opportunity, organization that exist now. Documents, I think, could be handled through a file reference option in the appointment entry window.

I like the idea of linking and tried it. highlight the note. Copy the hyperlink
then paste into the appointment details. The hyperlink shows up but nothing happens when I click the hyperlink in the appointment. what am I doing wrong?

Great idea, btw, just hope I can make it work.

Hey Guys,

That is correct. This wasn't exactly the intention of hyperlinks but this is a creative way of achieving that Link.

When I tested it, I must of tested it in an appointment where I already had hard returns.

If you paste the link and hit enter, it does remove the link and make it plain text. What you will want to do is hit enter twice, arrow up to move back up a line, then paste the link. Enter will kill the link so by pressing the down arrow, it keeps it intact.

I have logged a request with engineering to enhance the text field to allow Hyperlinks to be used this way as I feel it gives you additional flexibility for the way you want to work.

Hyperlinks can also be passed via iChat or emails. Any users connected to the database can use the hyperlinks.

I think maybe i misunderstood. I can get this to work if i paste into a note..... however i thought you said it would work the other way around i.e paste the link into an appointment or task.

If i paste into a note i get a link, to paste into an appointment or task, and i get a line of text.
