Has anyone had any problems with the widget causing DL to crash in startup, I have installed the widget and when I relaunch daylite I get a window appearing telling me that it has crashed on start up.

I tried removing all other plugins, HUD widgets etc from the application support folder so that there's just the FTP login there and Daylite still crashes. I'm using the most upto date version of daylite and running out of ideas. Has this happened for anyone else and if so do you have any advice as I'd really like to take advantage of this widget.

Hi Stewart

As author of the FTP widget I have to say that—to date—no one else has reported it causing a crash on start-up.

I’m not saying it’s not my widget, just that I’ve not had any other reports of this happening, and—as far as I can tell from my web stats—dozens of people have downloaded it.

Have you tried re-downloading it, in case it has gotten corrupted?

Does Daylite crash if you remove the widget?

Hi Andy -

Rats, looks like it must be something to do with my machine then - I downloaded and retried but get the same issue and yes if I remove the widget from the HUDtemplates folder daylite opens again.

If your interested I'll send you the error log, sounds like the problem is specific to my machine though.

Thanks for the swift reply btw.

Hi Stewart

If it crashes only when the widget is loaded, it could be something wrong with it.

Yeah, go ahead and send me the error log and I’ll take a look.

You aren't, by any chance, running the Safari 3.0 beta are you?

I ask that because the widgets in Daylite are basically HMTL, and AFAIK are using the Safari/Webkit engine. I know that some Dashboard widgets are broken by the beta, so it could be something similar.

morning, this should help and andy you may want to alter the package a bit. But basically it goes like this: control click the install package, open the contents, inside you find another install package and the forms as andy's install info says. Double click that install package and it works fine.

Hi Andy,

I'm trying to setup Daylite to oe.tv and I want to place all the data on our FTP using your widget.

I download the zip file and I place the FTPLogin.dlwkt in the HUDTemplets folder. In Daylite I add the ftp login in the forms preferences. I reboot Daylite and still I can't see the widget.

When I'm trying to open the widget again it coming with a note "The ftp widget is already install in the proper place"

I believe I'm missing something here or I'm doing something wrong.

Thanks

Oren

Have you followed the installation instructions on my website, particularly the Activate Widget step?

You also need to add a copy of the FTP Login Form to your contact with the appropriate details filled in.

If you have followed the instructions carefully, and are still having problems, let me know at what point in the process it fails.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the instruction link I got the widget to be active and I filled all the forms but now when I'm clicking connect nothing happening.

I'm using Fatch as my ftp application and I can log in to the ftp and drug and drop files using safari. Daylite is not opening non of this applications.

What I'm trying to achieve is that daylite is getting all the database from the FTP. So when I'm login to daylight all my contacts, org, notes, etc are coming from the ftp.

Thanks for your help man.

Oren

Hi Oren

It’s possible your machine is set up so that Fetch is not the default application for FTP. Try checking in the Fetch preferences to see if there is a setting to make it the default to handle FTP requests.

Failing that, you could try the 3rd-party Preference Pane RCDefaultApp (free), which allows you to override any default handler, MIME types etc. I find it useful to restore normality and sanity when an errant app install takes over a bunch of types I didn’t want it to (hello Realplayer, I’m looking at you!).

On your last point, however, you’ll find that the FTP Widget doesn’t do exactly what you want; it’s designed to simply store the details of an FTP server and allow you to connect with it with one click. I have no idea how to achieve what you are trying to do, and my widget won’t help you there.

Cheer

The widget seems to work ok.
Although smile Im using fetch to connect and the directory element seems to be ignored and just the root directory is opened.

# either when the directory is entered directly into the form
AND
# when the ftp account login has been setup to have access to a specific directory

I afraid this makes the widget unsuitable for our use.

Has anyone else found this?

It might be the way the path is being entered into the form (missing a slash?).

I don’t use Fetch myself, so can’t be sure, but you could try saving out the Fetch location as a bookmark, opening that in a text editor, and seeing how the URL appears; try entering the same values into the Form so that the final URL you are going to matches the exported bookmark?

Well that seems to do it! Thanks

I need to enter:
ftp://guest%40domain.co.uk:@ftp.domain.co.uk/

- into the directory field in the Daylite form where %40 was @ in the login username.

Great its working but shame it now pushes the widget our to the right and I have to scroll to see the connect button.
