I've put together some label templates that resolve the issue of husband/wife/spouse naming. Ideally in Daylite, each contact has its' own entity, but I've run into the issue where people will temporarily edit a contact's first name to include a wife/husband for labelling and mailing purposes. (ie First Name:John and Mary / Last Name: Doe). Blech.
Basically, you just need to add a relationship to 2 contacts with a relationship type of 'is spouse of'. So, you can drop John Doe onto Mary Doe and set the Relationship pulldown to 'is spouse of'. Then, when you select John Doe and Print... You can choose to use one of the spouse templates. Let's say that we have John Doe, who is married to Mary Doe, as well as Jim Doe, who is single, and James Doe, who is married to Mary Smith. If you select John Doe, Jim Doe, and James Doe, your labels will appear like: John & Mary Doe -- address -- Jim Doe -- address -- James Doe & Mary Smith -- address -- If you select Mary Doe and Mary Smith, on the other hand, you will get Mary & John Doe -- address -- Mary Smith & James Doe -- address -- - Note that we can only pull this off through the report engine, not the letter template merge engine. Although I have some ideas on how to use the report engine for writing letters as well.. The labels should be pretty easily modifiable if you need to change things around. More info in the Read Me. Download Here. You may just get a white screen - check your download window, the zip file downloads to wherever your download preferences are set to. Hope that helps some folks -Eric |
