Where can I find information about learning how to script? I don't know the difference between AppleScript and F-Script, but I'd like to learn. Is there a 'Scripting for Dummies' book somewhere?

Hi Mike-
This is just a personal opinion- If you have a programming background and think Objective-C just absolutely rocks, start with F-Script. If you have no idea what Objective-C is, start with AppleScript If you do go the Applescript route, there are a lot of good resources. I'd start here on the web and check out the books by Hanaan Rosenthal and Matt Neuburg on the dead-tree side to get started.. HTH! |

Make sure you read the F-Script guide:

Thanks AJ.. I'll look into those as well. Now I just need a few extra hours in the day to read and learn all this new stuff!

Is f-script an external product or built into OSX?

Technically, it is an external product. Daylite has its own slightly modified implementation of f-script. Other applications could do the same.
But the language itself has access to the methods in Cocoa, so it's kind of a hybrid I suppose. So it's got a pretty steep learning curve, but it's some powerful stuff. And it is about a zillion times faster than Applescript, so there's that.. |
