A little while back on the email list there was some discussion about using Applescript/Automator to help automate the process of importing an exported DL calendar without creating duplicates - the one part that's missing is the automation of the export from DL.
Could the scripting available in DL be used to create a script that would do the export to iCal format? If so, could it also be made to "fire" on a schedule? Or perhaps be made to activate on a schedule through a cron job utility? Until DL has good calendar printing, I'd like to be able to use iCal, but for some of our users, I need to figure out how to make it a no brainer (and no do-er) so they can just go to iCal each morning to print their calendar and everything from DL will have been transfered over during the night. |

An automated export to iCal (and deleting the current iCal calendar as to avoid duplicates) would be very helpful to me as well. I hardly use my Palm anymore and sync my iPod with iCal for an on-the-road copy of my appointments and schedules. As I've mentioned in another post - I have no knowledge of scripting (but would like to learn), but in the meantime, if someone could come up with something I'd greatly appreciate it.
Ideally, I would also like to export only the uncompleted ToDo's as well. Right now I don't bother with the Todos as it exports everything including the completed ones and there's just too much information to wade through. |

I'd been hoping to come up with a Folder Action script for at least the iCal part, but there seems to be a problem with iCal in terms of deleting the current iCal calendar (otherwise, the folder action works well and would be very easy to implement to deal with the iCal side of things). I've searched on Apple's support discussion area to see if it's something I'm doing wrong, and posted a question about it there - but so far, no response.
If I do get it working, I'll gladly share. I'm also hoping someone familiar with f-script will join in and tell us there is a way to write a script that will do the export of the DL calendar, because if there is, I'm sure I could find a way to set it up to be triggered on a schedule. Combined with the Folder Action, we'd be in business! |

This would be great for me too... I do the export to ical thing too as the calendar printouts in DL are very poor IMO. I have suggested to MC that they upgrade the print outs to match or exceed those of iCal, including examples, but no word on if they are acting on it with any speed...
So in the mean time if someone could develop this (or better print outs) that would be great. |

Another possibility is to export the DL calendar to a WebDAV (or .mac) server, and then subscribe to it via iCal.
Pro: you don't have to worry about duplicates in iCal since you're subscribing to the same calander and just hitting Refresh. Con: calendar is read-only in iCal. This is the setup I currently use, and it works fine. But if there was a way to automate the exporting from DayLite to the WebDAV server, it would be even sweeter. |

Frank,
Thanks for your suggestion about exporting the calendar to a WebDAV/.Mac server. That sounds like a great way to get my Daylite information into iCal for the purpose of syncing with my Palm Treo 650 (I've given up on the Daylite Conduit, which is buggy in my experience and doesn't handle recurring appointments correctly). Can you post some more information on how to set this up? I have a .Mac account and am not clear how to export the Daylite Calendar to this server. Thanks for any assistance you're able to provide. Cheers, Tim |
